THE 'CHARLES' SECTIONAL SOFA DESIGNED BY ANTONIO CITTERIO FOR B&B ITALIA

A$8,900.00

The 'Charles' series of sectional sofas was designed by Antonio Citterio in 1997 and is still in made to order production by B&B Italia due to its popularity, simplicity, comfort and elegance.

This particular example has been freshly upholstered in the most luxurious original 1970s velvet sourced specifically for this project. Whilst modern velvets contain a high amount of polyester and nylon, early velvets where produced from predominantly natural fibres meaning that it is incredibly soft and moves with the piece in a beautiful more flexible way. In a beautiful chocolate/caramel, the velvet picks up natural light and changes colour throughout the day.

Whilst the 'Charles' is still in production, the angled chaise section was discontinued during the 2000s and is therefore now a special coveted piece.

An visually encapsulating piece, divinely comfortable and highly functional (the two sections can be easily combined or separated depending on the space).

Maintaining all original branding, we believe this example of Citterio's iconic design is far more impressive than the upholstery options from the factory and would present beautifully in any lounge or retail space.

Available to view at our Alexandria Studio and please contact us should you wish to know more about this or any of our available pieces.

Dimensions:

Two seater section: 1560mm wide x 960mm deep x 365mm high seat & 710mm high back

Angled chaise section: 1860mm wide x 960mm deep (1500mm overall depth) x 365mm high seat & 710mm high back

Antonio Citterio is a prominent Italian architect and designer, born in 1950 in Meda, a town near Milan, Italy. His journey into design began early when he created his first piece of furniture in his father's workshop. Citterio pursued formal education at the Politecnico di Milano, where he graduated in 1975. Even before completing his degree, he established his own design studio in 1972, marking the beginning of a prolific career that would span several decades.

Citterio's contributions to industrial and furniture design are significant, with collaborations alongside prestigious brands like B&B Italia, Flexform, Flos, Kartell, and Vitra.
