Available only as a pair, these very special Wassily chairs are now available. Originally designed by Marcel Breuer in 1925.

Breuer was inspired by the frame of a bicycle and influenced by the constructivist theories of the De Stjil movement An apprentice at the Bauhaus when he reduced the classic club chair to its elemental lines and planes, forever changing the course of furniture design. Originally known as the ‘B3’ it wasn’t until the original manufacturer Gavina Italy discovered that Wassily Kandinsky (who also taught at the Bauhaus) had admired the prototype and received a handmade version from Breuer. Gavina from this point dubbed the chair ‘The Wassily’.

This pair of genuine Wassily chairs are produced by Gavina, likely in the 1970s and feature all the hallmarks of the quality construction. Chrome plated tubular steel frames and thick aniline leather a special combination on these very rare pieces.

Whilst both chairs feature heavy patina across the frame and leather, they are incredibly sturdy thanks to the quality of the original manufacturing. This heavy patina creates a sense of history, narrative and adds immense character and value to these very special chairs.

To preserve this patina, we have professionally cleaned and waxed the frames so that they are preserved in their special state. The beautiful character filled cognac aniline leather has also been protected through our leather rejuvenation process which will assist in the further preservation of these iconic and stunning pieces.

Available to view at our Alexandria Studio, this is a rare opportunity to secure a pair of genuine vintage Gavina produced Wassily chairs that will present perfectly in any interior space. Only sold as a matching pair, making this offering so much more special.
